England’s fans and media things england group is tough but there is group G which has the likes of Germany, Portugal, USA and Ghana fighting it out for the 2 places.
Why Group G is the toughest in all 8 groups ?
We have 4 times world cup winners Germany, European power house portugal, A solid United States side with Jurgen Klinsman as coach and African giants Ghana.
On paper we can safely say that Portugal and Germany should get through, but games are not played on paper and that is the real beauty of this wonderfull sport. Germans are head and shoulders above all the teams in this group but they should not and will not take any of the three games lightly and of course we know that “typical german mentality”.
Portugal barely qualify for the World Cup with some stunning performances from Worlds best player at the moment and that is Ronaldo. You stop Ronaldo, you beat Portugal but the kind of form he is in at the moment stopping him is easier said than done. Just ask Sweden.
United States has made massive improvment on world stage, they are on their highest FIFA rankings off all times, been through a long unbeaten streak, Currently they are 14 in the FIFA ranking and have been sensational in their regional competitions.
Ghana are african champions and they have a solid chance of making it throug to the Round of 16 if they can get a win against USA in the first game of this group.
Best Game to look forward to in Group G ?
Germany vs USA
It has to be Jurgen Klinsman making a return against a team he guided to World Cup 2006 semifinals. Since than Jaquim Low has taken over and took German national team to next level. Klinsman however has done wonders with US National side and this is a game everyone will be looking to watch. Though many can make a claim for Portugal vs Germany, which also will be a belter.
Group G Predictions
Germany and Portual to go through.
Germany to win against USA and Ghana while a draw against Portugal will surely secure the top spot in the group. So Germany is one team to go through, 2nd could be either Portugal or USA. If USA beat Ghana in their opening game they need to get another win against either Portugal or Germany and they will be through. But I dont think they will beat Portugal.
Players to watch out for in Group G
Cristiano Ronaldo
What can you say about the man, recently scored his 400th club goal, scored a stunning hattrick to put Portual in World Cup. He is their best player and if other 10 players perform anywhere near their best with Ronaldo in current form of his life they might surprise a few people.
Mesut Ozil
