Maracana was buzzing with German french and local brazilian fans in what billed to be a classic encounter between two great european sides, however game itself was a close affair and there was not much between the two sides apart from that header which Hummel converted to make it 1-0 for Germans. France on the other hand went into the game slightly underdog but they did had their moments with Griezmann and Valbuena creating problems for German defense. Karim Benzema a decent game and he had 5 shots on target alone in the first half while whole german team had 4, having said that his contribution was only limited to 5 shots as he only had a touch of the ball outside the box 3 times one of which was kickoff.
The game was 1-0 in German favour at the break and although France were trailing they could take a few positives from the first half peformance. Germany started the second half slightly nervous but got back on track as the game wore on, France matched German throughout the game but they failed to up the tempo leading to the last 2 minutes of the game.
Germans kept the defense in compact position and managed to see off what looked like a promising French side but it lacked that killer instinct. France had chances but they could not make the best of it and the game finished 1-0 for France.
