After losing the first leg at Stadium of light, Manchester United took on Sunderland for the 2nd leg of Semifinal match in Capital One Cup on 22 January 2014, United needed to win by more than 1 goal they did exactly that, Johny Evans gave them the lead which they managed to hold on to and reach final against City.
David Moyes side has been under real pressure going into the 2nd leg, having lost 7 league matches already this season and top 4 finish looks unlikely in the league while their only realistic chance of winning any silverware is in the Capital one cup. They lost the first leg by 2-1 but managed to score that all important away goal which helped them alot to get a massiv win in the 2nd leg. Johny Evans put United upfront,
United needed one more goal to get through to the final of the League cup, but that goal never arrived and off we went into the extra time where Where United had couple of very good chances, first for Javier Hernandez who missed a good oppertunity when sent clean through on goal by Januzaj, and than adnan Januzaj himself missed a chance.
